Often referred to as The man who shot the seventies', British-born Mick Rock is celebrated for his legendary portraits of rock and roll stars such as Queen, Iggy Pop, The Sex Pistols and David Bowie, for whom he was official photographer.

Mick Rock was born in 1948. He first met Bowie in 1972 and shot some of the most memorable pictures of him as Ziggy Stardust. He also produced and directed music videos for Bowie. Rock is credited with creating key images for album covers for Syd Barrett's The Madcap Laughs, Lou Reed's Transformer and Coney Island Baby, and Queen's Queen II and Sheer Heart Attack, to name a few. Other famous sitters have included cultural icons such as Lady Gaga, The Killers, The Chemical Brothers and Kate Moss.

As well as being known for his iconic photographs, Rock is also a renowned and expert music video director and producer, and is famous for bringing into being the seminal David Bowie videos for Jean Genie', Space Oddity' and Life on Mars'.

Rock was also the subject of a Vice documentary, edited and directed by Barney Clay, which surveys his extensive career as the inside man of Rock n' Roll. More recently Rock has been publishing a number of books based on his classic images including: A Photographic Record 1969-1980, Glam An Eyewitness Account, Psychedelic Renegade/ Syd Barrett, Picture This/ Debbie Harry & Blondie amongst others.

In his recent show at, Exposed at Sumo Gallery, New York, Rock showcased a number of his iconic images of the late David Bowie, as well as never seen before of modern day pop glitterati including Pharell Williams, Snoop Dogg, Daft Punk amd Janelle Monae.

Rock received the Diesel U Musics Legends Award for his contribution to music in late 2006.

He has held major exhibitions of his work in London, Berlin, New York, Los Angeles, Stockholm, Amsterdam, Tokyo and San Francisco. He currently lives in New York City with his wife and daughter.
